Fresh Kills, NY     1   |   2  |   3   |   4   |   5

While the skies will remain predominently dark atop Fresh Kills, a visual vocabulary of light and dark will identify nighttime activities, make the complex site legible to visitors, and create a strong visual identity. Volumes (built structures), lines (circulations) and points of light (selected landforms) will connect and form a variable map. Fresh Kills' Lifescape will set a precedent in applied research, and it will serve as a showcase for cutting-edge lighting technologies and concepts. These will include novel lighting technologies that interact with their environment; and sustainable lighting strategies. Life within «Lifescape» will be revealed in wavelengths that extend beyond visible the visible spectrum, and luminescence will permeate inorganic architecture and organic fauna and flora alike.
